Back to Back CIF Title

Last year, the boy’s basketball time took the first-ever D1 CIF title. This year, the team made a new record by winning two consecutive D1 CIF championships. Coach Chad Bickley, SFC’s Athletic Director, and basketball coach has the honor of leading the 2016 and 2017 teams to victory. The game took place Friday afternoon at Viejas Arena where the #2 Eagles took on the #1 Wildcats out of El Camino. On paper, the teams were very evenly matched. During the first quarter, neither team took a commanding lead. The second-quarter started with the Eagles down 13-11, but the Eagles outscored the Wildcats 13-9 before the first-half ended. Senior Matthew Stevenson took over in the third-quarter scoring 12 of his 24 points. Together, Stevenson, Senior Luke Sanders, and Freshman Trevan Martin helped the Eagles finish the third quarter up 46-37. Senior Jack McRoskey helped secure the win in the fourth-quarter by being able to handle the pressure by the Wildcats. McRoskey finished the night with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The Eagles were able to withstand a late scoring barrage by El Camino with the help of Senior Spencer Rydin who hit two big 3 pointers. The final score for the game was SFC 63 El Camino 52. The season ended on the road to the state championships.
