For the first time in over a decade, SFC’s Middle School produced a musical in which they shined all on their own. Directed by SFC teacher Amy Kennard, the talent of a 32-student cast and crew showcased “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at the SFC Chapel Theater in October.
“Having a Middle School musical was a great opportunity for these students, who are just discovering the fruits of effort and responsibility, to band together and create something unique and meaningful,” says SFC parent Deborah Haug. “Mrs. Kennard did such a great job of guiding and encouraging the actors with love and enthusiasm. It really showed in the high quality of performance, the fun they had, and the new friendships they made.”
In this first of soon-to-be-many MS productions, everyone could participate no matter what their acting level. For seventh grader Ben Tkach, this was a new experience. Being a part of the production gave him the opportunity to grow as a singer, actor and dancer, in addition to meeting kids in other grade levels.
When asked if there will be a MS musical next year, Amy replies, “I think it has to continue… …it’s already become a memorable tradition. Those students can’t wait until Upper School to perform again. Now the Lower School students are clamoring for one too!”
