The SFC Eagles Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team is set to conquer the Scripps Ranch Falcons in the CIF Lacrosse Semifinals. The Eagles took the win against the Pacific Ridge Firebirds with a score of 10-7, placing them in the Semifinals against Scripps Ranch at Santa Fe Christian, 4pm on May 17th.
Although a young team with only three seniors: RJ Walker, David Divjak and Chad Clerke, it is one of the strongest teams in San Diego. SFC was undefeated through most of April with an impressive 11-0 record before losing to arch rival The Bishops School, making this season the best start in program history. The team finished the season with a 13-3 record and is seeded number two in the San Diego Division I playoffs.
Junior Hank Ontiveros led the team in scoring during the regular season and was one of the most dominant in faceoffs (213 ground balls) in the state. Hank verbally committed to play Division I lacrosse at Wagner College in New York.
“This group learned early on that they would have to play as a team to be effective and achieve their goals this season. We knew we were young and down the stretch would need all of our guys to contribute to be where we wanted to be,” said Coach Tom DeMaio. “They have been working very hard to be in the position to play at home in the Division I playoffs.”
The championship game will be played on May 21, 5pm at Granite Hills High School. To keep up to date on the latest SFC sports events and locations, download the SFC Talon App or visit SFC’s Athletic Web Site.
