Head of Schools
Rod Gilbert brings a fresh perspective as SFC’s Head of Schools. As a strong leader with a shepherd’s heart, Rod encourages SFC’s faculty, coaches and staff to strive for excellence in all they do. At his core, Rod is an educator who wants children and their parents to see the world as something lovely, worth exploring and redeeming through Christ.
Prior to joining the SFC team, Rod led Regents School of Austin for fifteen years. While in Texas, he served on various boards and associations, wrote numerous journal articles and grant proposals, and conducted dozens of workshops on leadership and education. Rod holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and a Master’s of Divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He participated in additional studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the CESA Oxford University Intensive.
Rod and his wife of over 30 years, Angie, love watching their adult children on wild, and amazing journeys. They have a son, a daughter and her husband, and a baby grandson. When away from the office, Rod and Angie can be found soaking up the North County beach culture. In his free time, Rod also enjoys Cold War spy novels, Patrick O-Brien novels, Tolkien epic stories, cycling, day hikes, and rowing.
Hannah Park
Chief Academic Officer
Hannah Park is an experienced professional in the field of education with over 30 years of service. Prior to her current role as the Chief Academic Officer, she has served in progressive roles as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal. Under her leadership, SFC’s Lower School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon distinction for Exemplary High Performing School. Hannah holds an M.A. in Education Administration and Curriculum Design, California Administration and Teaching credentials, and a B.S. in Public Administration.
Hannah’s direction comes from her belief that true Christian education is a process that develops the whole person- mind, heart, and soul. She is dedicated to developing a school program that produces critical thinkers who can discern truth and help students discover and embrace their identity in Christ.
Hannah and her husband have two adult daughters, both graduates of SFC (class of 2015 and 2017). On the weekends, you can find Mrs. Park digging in the garden, knitting, hanging out with her friends and family, or planning their next travel adventures.
Amanda Walker
Lower School Principal
Amanda Walker is a Solana Beach native, and experienced educator, with almost 20 years at Santa Fe Christian alone. Mrs. Walker holds a Master’s in Educational Administration from Point Loma Nazarene, California Administration and Teaching credentials, and a B.A. from Santa Clara University.
Much like her walk with Christ, Mrs. Walker’s passion for teaching started very young. After receiving her teaching credential, she spent two years working in Children’s ministry before beginning her teaching career in private Christian schools. Since 2006 she has taught in various grade levels at Santa Fe Christian and was the Assistant Principal in the Lower School for 6 years before accepting the role of Principal.
Mrs. Walker and her husband have three children; two sons and a daughter, who all have the privilege of attending Santa Fe Christian. Mrs. Walker loves to read and rarely says no to a good cup of coffee. She is humbled and grateful to serve alongside the incredible faculty and staff at SFC to provide a foundational educational experience for the youngest Eagles on campus, grounded in the truth of God’s word.
Dr. Todd Deveau
Middle School Principal
Dr. Todd Deveau joined Santa Fe Christian Schools in 2013 as Middle School Principal. Under his leadership, SFC’s Middle School was recognized as an Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education in 2015. Todd’s passion is to ensure the Middle School years are a time of exploration and discovery with lots of opportunities for children to find their passions.
Todd began his career in education as a Spanish teacher in Houston, TX. After 14 years in the classroom, he served as a K-8 Principal in Orlando before leading a school for gifted students as Head of School back in Houston. Todd has a B.A. and M.A. in Spanish and a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialty in Gifted and Talented Education.
Todd has been married to Ruthie for 23 years. Their daughter, Haven (class of 2019), and son, Timmy (class of 2022), both thrived as Santa Fe Christian students. They attend Daybreak Church in Carlsbad. When he finds extra time, Todd enjoys playing golf with friends.
He feels privileged to come alongside an amazing Christian faculty and administration as they guide SFC’s Middle School students together each day.
Matt Hannan
Upper School Principal
Growing up in Big Bear, California, Principal Matt Hannan spent winters snow skiing and playing hockey, and the summers water skiing. He attended Whitworth University for his undergrad years and loves all things outdoors. The Lord called Matt to SFC to serve as the Upper School Principal 15 years ago and he is humbled to be in this role.
With nearly 25 years of educational experience, including 18 years in high school administration and an MA in Education Administration, Mr. Hannan is well-equipped to lead SFC’s Upper School. Before joining SFC, Mr. Hannan was an English teacher, an ASB Director, and the Assistant Principal at a high school in one of San Diego’s top school districts. He is very active in high school athletics, serving in a leadership role for the Coastal Conference, as well as the CIF-San Diego Section Board of Managers.
Mr. Hannan encourages Upper School students to take action to engage their passions, experience authentic learning and develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. And there’s a special place in his heart for SFC’s Upper School Missions Program. For several years, he has chaperoned SFC students as they ministered to 100 children at Grace Home, an orphanage and school in New Delhi, India.
Mr. Hannan and his wife have two grown daughters (both SFC alumni). He loves being his daughters’ consultant and greatest fan as they now navigate young adulthood. He feels blessed to work alongside and lead the faculty and staff that make SFC exceptional.
Doug Miller
Director of Athletics
Over thirty years ago, Doug Miller distinctly remembers God revealing his calling in life — to mentor and serve young people. Since then, Doug has made it his personal mission to passionately demonstrate God’s love and power through one of the best platforms for mentoring, athletics. Doug began his journey with Santa Fe Christian Schools in 1996 when both he and his wife Cammie chose to have their two sons attend the school. For the past 12 years, he has invested in countless lives at SFC through coaching several sports, most recently Varsity Track & Field and Varsity Football. What’s more, he loves to win in sports.
Doug is known by the SFC community as a committed mentor of students – helping them attain their goals and athletic aspirations as they walk into adulthood. He delights in coming alongside others, building leadership skills, and challenging individuals to live a life of trust, truth, and transformation. Every conversation, every teachable moment, he views as an opportunity to show others that Jesus is real.
As a professional, Doug co-founded REPu, a nationally successful athletics app used by schools and universities across the country. Prior to REPu, Doug worked for IBM and other IT consulting companies. He is an Ironman World Champion Athlete, a marathon racer, and a devoted husband and father of two boys Brock and Reed. Both boys, SFC lifers, went on to successfully play college football at Stanford and Southern Utah. Brock is still pursuing a career as an NFL punter.
Kurt de Pfyffer
Chief Financial & Operations Officer
Kurt de Pfyffer cultivated a love of adventure early in life starting with the decision to attend college on the East Coast as a Southern California native. It continued with his move to Japan to work for the Japanese government, and then to Hewlett Packard to tackle major mergers and acquisitions. His professional career, includes leadership roles in finance and operations at Hewlett Packard, Deloitte & Touche, and several San Diego technology companies. He earned an MBA from UC Irvine, a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and is a licensed CPA in California.
Kurt developed a passion for Christian education while serving on elder and school boards for a decade before joining the leadership team at SFC. He brings a high level of professionalism to the organization from his years of corporate experience and a spiritual maturity that has blended well with the school’s culture.
Kurt and his wife, Sarah, met playing tennis on a blind date and have been married for over 20 years. They have four active boys, three attending SFC and one attending college at PLNU, along with a yellow lab named Daisy. The de Pfyffer’s are a sports family, with soccer, football and tennis players. They are also avid snowboarders who enjoy winter weekends at Big Bear and hikes in the summer.
Rob Honma
Chief Technology Officer
As a Southern California native, Rob Honma spent the majority of his 30-year technology career in Silicon Valley. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems and a CIO Executive Development certificate.
Prior to joining Santa Fe Christian, Rob oversaw all the technology for a prominent multi-campus church in the Bay Area and has also worked for the Huntington Beach Union HS District. He is passionate about building the next generation of IT leaders and leveraging technology for the greater good.
Rob and his wife Leilani have 4 children (two older boys and two younger girls). Leilani is very involved in education having served as PTA Council President and working in Administration at UC Santa Cruz. Their children genuinely love spending time together, playing card games, solving escape rooms, and cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Rob has been a roller-hockey travel coach and player and when he’s not deep-sea fishing with friends, he enjoys photography, fixing things and keeping up with his San Jose Sharks.
