With Christmas around the corner, my heart is reminded of a little baby boy, born in a feeding trough, in a place called Bethlehem. But He was more than just a baby in swaddling clothes… so much more! He was the incarnate God who came to Earth to reclaim His own people. By taking on a fleshly body – and uniting His divine self with his earthly self – he broke through the material fabric of the universe.

By His coming to Earth, He redeemed our souls and made a way for us to pass from this Earth into eternal Heaven. More than that, He showed us that this Earth (His created order), is good, redeemed, beautiful, and worth experiencing before we die. It is important to note that as Christians, we are already living with eternal life, and “Chapter One” of our eternal life is this present life on earth. This life that is filled with blood, sweat, tears, and all sorts of experiences filled with sounds, sights, aromas, touches, and feelings!

How does the moment of Christ’s birth affect our purpose at Santa Fe Christian and the educational vision of our school? How does the incarnation of Christ – God becoming a man – direct how our teachers approach their subjects each day? More importantly, how do we help students fall in love with the created order of the world, in a way that warms their hearts toward our Lord Jesus Christ, the creator of all things? This is the central theme that guides me each and every day at Santa Fe Christian. By tackling this last question, we can begin to lead students into an educational model that encourages them to explore the world, and learn new things! Discovery becomes an act of worship.

Our purpose at SFC is to lead students to see the world in this incarnational way – to discover and learn how this amazing world works BECAUSE He redeemed the world! Because of the birth in Bethlehem we explore, we take risks, we learn, we experience, we experiment, we discover, and we enjoy. When teachers and students approach math, science, literature, history, languages, sports and arts this way, then they will be smitten by the lively and animated world that Christ created. In doing this, we share in Christ’s love for the world and awaken our children’s hearts to the amazing world that awaits them!
